Urine Burns

Question: Urine Burns
Our dog got into the small, fenced area of drought resistant grass we have. There are many urine burns that we can't seem to get rid of.  We tried mushroom compost, but the spots are still brown. Any suggestions?

Answer:

Thank you for contacting me.  I had a female dog and had the same problem. The way to treat these areas:

1)  flush the spot with copious amounts of water,

2)  scratch the yellowed spots with a trowel or rake until you have removed
the dead grass,

3)  cover the spot with new soil/compost,

4)  re-seed the grass, and

5)  gently water the newly seeded area and keep it moist until the seed germinates.  Once the grass has germinated, treat as you would the rest of your lawn.
