March 2008 Question: Cleaning Rust From SinksWe live on the farm, this will be our first year of producing organic crops. We believe in using natural cleaning products etc and have a problem with rust in our well water. Is there a natural cleaner to remove rust build up in sinks etc.? Answer: Here is some information about cleaning rust from sinks.
2) Let the liquid stand until the spot or spots disappear. 3) Rinse the area with fresh water. 4) Repeat steps if necessary. Rather then repeat the vinegar treatment, I have been experimenting with rust cleaning in sinks, as well. I used some baking soda sprinkled on the same spots where I had previously used the vinegar (which had removed most of the stain). After moistening the sink, I let the baking soda sit for a few minutes and then scrubbed the spots. Voilą, no more stains and the sink was clean, as well. For more information and non-toxic recipes, the 32-page booklet Non-toxic Alternatives For Everyday Cleaning And Gardening Chores is available for purchase both as a hardcopy booklet or an e-book.
