Growing Herbs in the Tropics

Quotes for a Cookbook

Question: Growing Herbs in the Tropics
Greetings and how's my friend Gwen!  I do hope you can encourage your friend herbalist to publish a book on tropical herbs citing their medicinal and beneficial values. I always read your very valuable and wonderful book. If there's a publication on these herbs, please send me a copy so that I can grow it here in the Philippines. Your friend, LTCOL Magueflor

Answer:

I am very pleased to hear from you. Thank you so much for your comments about my book.

I went to the internet to find out what herbs where suitable for growing in the tropics and discovered that if they grow here on the Prairies in Canada, they really grow in the tropics.  The only problem would be plants such as rhubarb that need to have a very cold winter to continue to produce.  Otherwise, I don't think you will have a problem with any herb you choose.

In my book, The Healing Garden: A Place Of Peace, Chapter 10, Creating An Indoor Herb Garden, pages 101 - 117, has some information about vitamins and minerals contained within some of the herbs.  Although the chapter is specific to growing herbs indoors, the same conditions apply for outdoor growing.

These pages on my website have numerous articles related to herbs:

Question: Quotes for a Cookbook

Dear Gwen - HOPE spring will soon come in SK.-- I am sure you agree!

Gwen, our United Church is printing a 50th Ann. Cookbook and I am busy with it right now.  I have a request from you, since you are the Queen of finding good quotes!!  I found some nice food / home/ heart/ warmth / cooking / kitchen / soul food / table/ hospitality / quotes in " Simple Abundance " (Breathnach) book.   But am wondering if you know where I could find more, or you could send me some appropriate quotes.   That would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Lynette Collier, Gull Lake, Sk.
