Chapter 7 Colour and Healing Energy
____________________________________________________________________ In
this chapter: Ř
What the Colours Mean Ř
Remember “Gardening is the art that uses flowers and
plants as paint, and the soil and sky as canvas.” - Elizabeth Murray Every substance on earth contains colour. Even the rays cast on earth by celestial bodies contain colour
in the form of white light. The rays
of the sun contain seven different colours –
violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. These are natural colours that are highly
beneficial to the maintenance of health and for healing diseases. Sunlight plays an important role in the
recovery from chronic disease and the judicious use of sunlight can be part
of the curative process in other afflictions. The rays of the sun improve digestion and nutrition, quicken
blood and lymph circulation, and increase the elimination of impurities
through the skin. The method of
treatment of diseases by colour is called ‘chromotherapy.’ Throughout the ages, the importance of
colour in the healing process has been well known. The ancient Greeks and Egyptians used coloured minerals,
stones, crystals, salves, and dyes as remedies, and painted treatment sanctuaries in various shades of
colour. Although in and out of popularity throughout the centuries, colour as a treatment
modality is again receiving attention by the medical establishment. WHAT THE COLOURS MEAN RED – ENERGY, VITALITY, PASSION The
colour of the blood, love, fertility, and full of life-force energy, red is
symbolic of heat, fire,
and anger. Red-orange light in colour
therapy is known to increase blood pressure, speed
up breathing, enhance poor circulation, is good for sore throats, muscles,
and is stimulating to the growth of plants.
It strengthens the blood and is used in the treatment of anaemia,
detoxifies and removes debris for both the body and the psyche, and helps
fight infection. Red keeps you alert
and provides physical and mental energy when you feel tired or sluggish. The Japanese use red and white to
represent happiness. It is useful for
people who
catch colds easily and makes cold areas seem warmer. This
is the beginning of the seventh chapter of the book The Healing Garden:
