Phytochemistry is defined as
the study of plant chemistry, including the chemical processes that take place
in plants, the nature of plant chemicals, and the various applications of
such chemicals to science and industry.
Phytochemicals is a term that simply means plant chemicals. Everything in plants – the
sugars, fibre, vitamins, and antioxidants are phytochemicals. This science of plant chemistry and
products is now seriously researching the connection between the nutritional
value of food and the plant’s colour. What scientists
are discovering is that a multi-coloured meal is not only a
feast for the eyes but is more beneficial for your health. Each colour is linked to a different phytochemistry and offers specialized
health benefits. In my book, The

information about plants, food colours, and recipes. Red is the vitamin A or beta-carotene foods and the rule is the redder the better. Red is for warmth, energy, strength, courage, vitality, and helps us get in touch with our basic life-force energy. Depression can be lessened with extra red plant foods. Read more Orange
is the colour of balance, energy, and unity.
This colour is linked to our emotions and is the colour of joy. Orange is a good colour for putting your
life back together after divorce, grieving, or shock. Read

of the sun and brings feelings of self-worth and lifts depression. It is a great aid to concentration and
study as it provides intellectual and inspirational stimulation. It surrounds us with warmth, joy, and
laughter and brings us to a more positive outlook on life. Read

the primary healing colour, green, the colour of nature brings harmony to all
in its presence. Green creates
feelings of inner peace, harmony, and balance. This balance brings us a feeling of newness and freedom of the
spirit and helps relieve stress and emotional problems. Read

is the colour of truth, understanding, and tranquillity. This colour is relaxing, calming, and
ideal for places of healing. For
people struggling with insomnia, blue is an important colour as it relaxes
the mind and body. Read
more Indigo
is the colour that brings focus to our lives. It is calming, soothing, and brings feelings of
self-worth. Indigo is said to be the
colour of creative visualization and enhances psychic perception. Read

is the colour of intuition, power, and reason. This colour is said to be the brain’s creative and intuitive
food. Purple suggests a sense of the
mysterious and is linked to the unconscious.

the colour of peace and spirituality has a special healing quality. It is the symbol of purity, protection,
and reverence. This colour is
conducive to helping with the inner cleansing of emotions, alleviates
emotional shock and despair, and brings peace and comfort at the highest
